Light-controlled, living radical polymerisation mediated by fluorophore-conjugated RAFT agents

چکیده

Photoinduced electron transfer-reversible addition?fragmentation chain-transfer (PET-RAFT) polymerisation allows the controlled synthesis of polymers and provides an alternative to transition metal-based photoinitiators. Here, fluorophore-conjugated RAFT agents, containing either 5-carboxyfluorescein or a “boron-dipyrromethene” (BODIPY) moiety attached thiocarbonylthio group, were synthesised. Both agents enabled light-controlled (470 nm, 0.4 mW/cm2) “on/off” yielding with Mw/Mn < 1.50. The BODIPY-based agent showed excellent photostability gave that contained single fluorophore per polymer chain, providing expedient route homogeneous fluorescently labelled polymers. This was compatible multiple acrylamide/acrylate monomers range functional groups, terminating group enabling further chain extension formation fluorescent block copolymers, as demonstrated by BODIPY-labelled poly(N,N-dimethylacrylamide)-block-poly (3-acrylamidophenyl)boronic acid).

Organotellurium-mediated living radical polymerization under photoirradiation by a low-intensity light-emitting diode

A low-intensity (6 W) light-emitting diode (LED) effectively activated an organotellurium chain transfer agent and the dormant species, promoting well-controlled radical polymerization. The use of the LED provided many advantages over the previously reported high-intensity Hg lamp, including high energy efficiency during the polymerization, and easy availability of the low-cost light source. St...

Controlled radical polymerisation of methyl acrylate initiated by a well-defined cobalt alkyl complex.

Cobalt-mediated radical polymerisation of methyl acrylate is effected at moderate temperature by both a square planar bis(beta-ketoaminato)cobalt(II) complex in the presence of V-70 diazo radical initiator, and by a well-defined cobalt(III) alkyl derivative in the absence of a diazo complex. Polymerisation rates suggest that both reversible termination and degenerative transfer mechanisms are o...

One-pot tandem living radical polymerisation-Huisgens cycloaddition process ("click") catalysed by N-alkyl-2-pyridylmethanimine/Cu(I)Br complexes.

Azide terminally functional poly(methyl methacrylate)s (Mn = 4000-6000, PDI = 1.21-1.28) have been prepared by living radical polymerization and successfully reacted with alkynes in a Huisgen cycloaddition (click) reaction in one pot using the same catalyst for both processes.
